Frequently Asked Questions

What is Trillion Trees?

Trillion Trees is the united force of Birdlife International, Wildlife Conservation Society and WWF. Together we protect and restore forests all over the world - for the benefit of people, nature, and the climate.

What is FORMAPP?

FORMAPP is a suite of tools that helps projects track and monitor forest restoration efforts and measures. FORMAPP has been developed by Trillion Trees to ensure that projects that are supported by Trillion Trees have the tools they need to monitor progress effectively. FORMAPP is hosted on an online platform which provides guidance and tutorials on how to use the tools, template forms, and customizable dashboards to view the results.

What are the components of FORMAPP?

  1. The FORMAPP data portal: FORMAPP training materials, guidance and data is hosted at https://formapp.trilliontrees.org/en-us/. Users can access template survey forms for field verifications, and adapt these forms for their local contexts.
  2. KoboToolBox: We recommend that projects use KoboToolBox to adapt survey forms for local use. Projects can create their own Kobo account for free, then link this account to Trillion Trees FORMAPP. This means projects can easily upload and share data with Trillion Trees, while retaining access and editing rights to the raw data via Kobo.
  3. Cybertracker: Cybertracker makes field data collection easy. There is a Trillion Trees data collection tool within Cybertracker, and projects can deploy their survey forms to Cybertracker for use in the field. When data collection is complete, the data can be easily uploaded to the project Kobo account, and shared with the FORMAPP database.

How to log in to FORMAPP?

The login button is at the bottom of the FORMAPP website pages. You can login using your professional email address if you’re part of the Trilion Trees partnership.

How to register a new project on FORMAPP?

To register a new project on FORMAPP, click on the Projects tab of the website. If your project do not appear in the list, you can create a new one with the button “Add new record”.

Does it work offline?

Yes, data can be entered into Cybertracker while offline and uploaded later. Data forms and background data sources, like maps, can be prepared ahead of time at the office and downloaded to each data collection device (tablet or smartphone). These remain accessible in the field, and survey forms can be filled, edited and saved for later upload.

Is my project data safe?

Only the registered project manager has access to the raw data from that project. We encourage all projects to create their own free Kobo account for project data. All data for that project is password-protected and stored securely in the cloud. Some field data can then be shared with the Trillion Trees FORMAPP database. No personal data (such as names, email addresses or phone numbers) is transferred to FORMAPP. Data shared with FORMAPP is password-protected and kept secure. Summary data about the project can be viewed by others from your organization, but only the registered project manager can edit data entries for that project.
